A neologism derived from the Greek bios, meaning ‘life’, and the English sourcing, meaning ‘to source’, The term biosourcing is often used when discussing environmental issues, and refers to the use of renewable raw materials or natural ingredients – raw materials derived from biomass, such as plants, algae or organic waste. Increasingly common in industry and public debate, biosourcing aims to reduce dependence on non-renewable fossil resources and minimise the environmental impact of industrial processes.
